The specific objectives of the 2020-2025 research program are:

  • Characterize and extract bioactive biomolecules that can impact the brain (e.g. algae, berries, grapes, cannabinoids)
  • Study the bioavailability of bioactive molecules and their derivatives
  • Studying the nutrient-drug interaction
  • Study the impacts of micro and macronutrients including omega-3 on brain health and the development of neuropsychiatric disorders
  • Study the preventive/corrective impact of a nutritional approach on the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
  • Study the neurobehavioral determinants of food intake
  • Determine the mechanisms of the vulnerabilizing effects of early unbalanced nutrition (perinatal, adolescence) on the development of cognitive and emotional alterations at different stages of life
  • Establish proof of concept in humans using integrated approaches (behavioral and pathological assessments, brain imaging, biological markers, genetics, etc.). Clinical studies will be performed with cohorts of elderly participants at risk for neurodegenerative disorders.
